Dear Prospective Navy League Member:

The Barcelona Council of the Navy League of the United States (NLUS) invites you to join our organization. An
application for NLUS membership and background on the NLUS Barcelona Council are accessible, and printable, from this webpage.

Your NLUS membership entitles you to receive
Sea Power magazine and other mailings from our national Headquarters in Washington. Your Barcelona Council membership entitles you to participate in local activities, including, but not limited to:
     * Invitations to all local sponsored events
     * Invitations to special activity of interest to our members
     * Receptions for officers and sailors visiting our home ports of Barcelona and Tarragona
     * Inivitations to on-board ship tours of visiting vessels
     * Participation in briefings, seminars and symposium on maritime-related affairs and issues

Our relationship with visiting vessels is reciprocal. We provide visiting Sea Service personnel with valuable information on local resources and  a “home away from home”. Likewise, we learn from our guests about the maritime service of the men and women serving in the NATO forces.

We are also very interested in forging relations with our colleagues at local maritime organizations, like the Royal Liga Naval and the Asamblea de Capitanes de Yates, and local English-speaking organizations like the American Society and the British Society to promote diaglogue and camaraderie.

If you wish to join, please complete the NLUS Application (to access, click NLUS Application on the right side of this page) and return it to us. We are able to receive payments in Euros via bank transfers, direct deposits or credit cards wtih PayPal .

Please contact us if you have any questions about the Navy League, or its Barcelona Council activities. The Chair of our Membership Committee is Salvador Molist, who is fluent in English, Spanish and Catalan. Our email is

Founded in 1970, the Navy League of the United States, Barcelona Council, is the oldest European Council of NLUS and is one of over 320 Councils world-wide of the NLUS.

The objectives and purposes of the Navy League are educational and motivational in matters related to maritime issues involving both United States and NATO vessels. NLUS has over 72,000 members. The individual councils form the heart of the Navy League. Councils are essential to meeting the mission and goals of the Navy League because ordinary citizens become involved in council activities.

The Barcelona Council of the Navy League sponsors many activities throughout the year, such as specialized tours of visiting vessels, networking opportunities, educational talks, and camaraderie. You need not be a U.S. citizen or have prior service in the Navy to join. Membership is open to non-active military only. Our members come from many nations and speak a variety of languages,  although we conduct our official business in English.

About Navy League of the United States
The Navy League of the United States (NLUS) was incorporated in 1902 in part by the 26th President of the United States, Theodore Roosevelt, who contributed monies he received from the Nobel Peace Prize. It is unique among military-oriented associations in that it is a civilian, non-profit, educational association dedicated to offer services and support to the men and women serving in the naval forces of the United States - Navy, Marine Corps, Coast Guard, and the Merchant Marine and related Sea Services. The European Councils of NLUS expand their support to include the men and women serving in the NATO forces visiting our home ports and regions. Members of the Navy League bring to life their motto -- "Citizens in Support of the Sea Services"

Objectives

The NLUS has set forth the following objectives:
..... To foster and maintain interest in the Sea Services as integral parts of a sound national defence, vital to peace keeping and the freedoms we enjoy in a democratic world.
..... To serve as a means of educating and informing all peoples with regard to the role of sea power in the nuclear age and the problems involved in maintaining strong defences in that age.
..... To improve the understanding and appreciation of those who wear the uniforms of the armed forces and to better the conditions under which they live and serve.

Additional objectives of the Barcelona Council include:
..... To provide support and recognition for the NATO forces based in Spain or visiting our home ports of Barcelona and Tarragona as capable and responsive peacekeepers
..... To foster close and friendly relations with our host nation, Spain, and especially the Spanish Armada and Armed Forces , and with our fellow Spanish fraternal organizations focusing on maritime-issues.

Barcelona is one of eleven NLUS Councils in the European Region. Information about our European Region can be found at the NLUS European Councils portal at
