Amphibious Maneuvers Conference from RAECY..... February 6 - 19h30, Círculo del Liceu, Las Ramblas 65 Coronel de Infantería de Marina don Luis Solá will speak on amphibious operations. He will touch upon the history of these maneuvres and his experience which qualified him to graduate suma cum laude from the ULB in Paris. Happy Hour at the American Society..... February 20th - 21h00, Pomarada, Paseo de Gracia, 78, Principal Speak English, make new friends or see old friends, meet the Board, or get the latest information on all the new events in the hopper. No need to register in advance, just show up, all are welcome! Calçotada ..... February 24, 09h30, meet at Plaça Catalunya Join in the festivities of the best time you can have eating onions! The annual Catalan tradition will be heartily celebrated again this year by heading south to visit the Royal Monastery of Santes Creus, one of the largest and best-preserved Cistercian monasteries that can be visited in the present day. Lunch with delectable calçotada follows. Gourmet Tasting Dinner Party..... March 1 - 20h15, C/ Fraternitat 23, 2º Piso Experience the Kokun, the new-concept gastronomic social club, with Creative Basque and Catalan Dishes . Since this is a small group event, pre-registration and payment is required. Celebration of the Spanish War of Independence..... Tentatively scheduled for April 10th, RAECY will kick off their series of conferences in celebration of the 200th anniversary of the War of Independence (also referred to the Peninsular War). Watch this space for further details, which will be published as soon as they become available. |
| Planned Events NLUS Barcelona Council is planning some exciting activity for its members, so stay tuned for details. Currently on the table for discussion is a sailing excursion, a cultural outing, and our annual Sant Jordi celebration and tour of the Port of Barcelona. We welcome all contributions to this discussion and help with formulating our 2008 activities calendar. Past Events in 2007 Sailing, sailing.... A hearty THANKS! to NLBCN Board member Salvador Molist, who conducted the Titulin License Training Course in June. His classes were held on consecutive Saturdays, with enthusiastic pupils who learned the ropes, er acquired the proper seafaring tools to operate boats up to 6 meters in length during daylight hours. The classes were sponsored by the American Society. Our thanks to MS Barcelona for hosting the classes at their offices. Independence Day Fun..... The annual Fourth of July Celebration, sponsored by the American Society was held on July 8th - the best American Independence Day celebration in Catalunya with entertainment galore. Over 100 people attended the event, held at El Jardi in Raval. Virgen del Carmen..... The annual Carmen Celebration was sponsored by the Spanish Navy League and the Royal Association of Yacht Captains on July 14th at the Marina Hotel. This was the third year this summer formal gala was held, an event that was both fun and an important opportunity to socialize with our colleagues from Spain´s fraternal organizations for afficionados of all things associated with the sea. NLUS European Region Third Annual Conference..... In October, our Council was represented at the Third NLUS European Councils conference, held in Cannes, France. |
